MID CANTERBURY COMBINED
WHEAT COMPETITION
In 2023 we made history by starting a combined Mid Canterbury Wheat Competition, the brainchild of Nicola Pace.
The competition was started back in 1995 by Ray McIntosh with his wife Jenny providing her famous morning teas and lunches which became synonymous with the event. The competition was judged on weeds, diseases and appearance in two categories – feed and milling, and the harvest sample was judged on protein.
Over the last 10 years the judging has become more scientific using the universal formula for yield (counting the heads in the paddocks, machine threshing the heads & then counting the grains.)
We are delighted with the success of the combined Mid Canterbury Wheat Competition, with 47 paddocks judged in the region and Methven having two in the top five.
